Bubar Brother Potatoes

My husband Tom and his brother Fred owned and operated Bubar Brothers Potatoes for many years. They were born and raised in Fort Fairfield. Not only were they brothers, but they were business partners and friends. They have farming in their blood, and both farmed for approximately 50 years before we retired in 2020.

I was born in Toronto, Canada and knew absolutely nothing about potatoes until moving to Maine and marrying my husband, Tom. We were seed growers, and we worked side by side. We would often enjoy the sunrise while working the fields.

In the Spring, Tom and I were in our potato house cutting seed then taking the loaded trucks filled with the cut seed to the field. In the winter, we loaded the potatoes into semi-trucks heading first to Florida, then up the East Coast as far as Ontario, Canada.

As time passed, we proudly watched as our children Sarah and Nicholas picked potatoes in 1989, and later our granddaughter Lillianna in 2020.
