With little time on my hands after milking, bottle feeding, washing milking stuff, excessively cuddling and more milking… I’ve had little time for a quick homestead update. We have had six kids so far.
One kid was butted really hard after being rejected by its mother. I had to step in and take it away, but alas it was too late and we lost the little fella. Very sad day here on the farm.
Admittedly, we were disappointed with there being five bucklings out of six. We don’t keep any bucklings here, we lease a buck to service the herd in the rut season. The one little doeling (seen in the close-up above) is shy and hasn’t taken to the bottle very well yet since removing the dams. I have to cradle her like a baby and cram it in her mouth. Once the nipple is in there she sucks on it heartily! The others mob me for the bottles, but not her. We have named her Molly.
